WELDING ELECTRODE QUALIFICATION
A welding electrode qualification test determines if weld filler metal meets the specified characteristics for its intended use. For example, if a piping system is to be used in sub zero temperatures then the base metal (pipe) and the welds used to join the pieces of pipe in the system must be able to withstand the rigors of sub zero environment. Mechanical testing determines impact toughness and tensile strength of the weld metal.
